Terminal tackle set-up on fly fishing for big pike

  • Published in FAQ

Esnagami Lodge is starting up a weekly series on fishing tips. Just send us your questions for either tackle or fly fishing, and we will answer one each week.

1. The first is from Bob U... "I have a question regarding your choice of leader while fly fishing for pike/musky. Can you explain what you run and how you attach it? I have experimented with several options but you seem to have it dialed in. I will typically always use a 9ft 8wt, unless it windy or I'm throwing an exceptionally large fly then I will go up to a 9wt".

Tackle Shop

If you happen to run short while at the lodge, or would simply like to try something a bit different, our Tackle Shop carries an assortment of proven fish catching patterns.

Northern Pike

There may be no more thrilling, or productive way to catch Northern Pike than on a fly.

Esnagami Lake provides some of the best trophy Northern Pike fishing that you will experience anywhere – and to say that they love to attack a fly is perhaps one of the greatest angling understatements of all time.

Walleye & Whitefish

Walleye are abundant both in Esnagami Lake, and throughout the Esnagami River system.

They will readily take a fly, and provide some great action, particularly when caught in fast moving water. Walleye up to 24" have been taken on a fly by our guests.
